Sockeye are strongly associated with Alaska and continue to be one of the most sustainable wild salmon populations in the world. Also known as Red Salmon, they are leaner than Chinook or Coho, but have a wonderful mild flavor and deep red flesh.
While salmon are endangered, primarily due to land management and dams, conservation groups recognize that sustainably managed fishing by local communities is an important part of pushing for the kind of changes we’ll need to make to truly improve wild salmon waterways and habitat throughout the NW.
